Q: What kind of gas should I be putting my 2001 Nissan Maxima?
Is it okay to put regular in it or do I need to use a higher grade?

A: What does it say on the gray sticker on the fuel door? "for maxium performance use premium" 91 octane 93 if you can get it. That info is in section #9 page 10 of your owners manual. It will run on regular I do not reccomend that. With regular 87 octane performance and gas mileage will be less.

Q: 2001 Nissan Maxima engine cuts off when put in park?
My car's engine cuts off when I put the car in park or just crank it up it'll go back dead. As long as the car is in motion I have no problems. I have replaced two coils already but the problem is still here. What could this be?

A: Your EGR valve is malfunctioning.

Q: How much would it cost to have a body kit installed and painted on my 2001 nissan maxima?
Just trying ot figure out if it's worth it and if it would be affordable.

A: Well installation would cost around 100$ like the person above me specified. For me, i scratched thee hell outta my front bumper and basically got this guy who restores bumpers for nissan to repaint it all for me. It was like 125 $ =D. But if you go to a body shop to get it painted they gotta order the paint and shiet so it would cost you like 350 - 400 from them. Go to the Nissan dealership, ask for someone who paints the bumpers and restores them (because when people trade in cars, this person's job is to repaint the bumper n make it look all pretty lol) Ask um how much it would cost to paint ur bumper to match your car. Most likely they should already have the paint for your car since it's Nissan. But yeah, good luck there!

Q: How do I replace the tail light bulb in my 2001 Nissan Maxima? And where can I purchase the light?
I would appreciate step-by-step instructions on how to remove the tail light assembly to get at the bulb, including what tools to use, anything special I would need to know to remove and replace the actual bulb, and how to re-secure the tail light assembly back onto the car. I would also like to know the best place to buy a new bulb that would fit my car. Thanks!

A: On the back of the lens, in your trunk, you should remove the carpeting or lining in the trunk to gain access to the back of the light. There is a plug in on the back of it that you should be able to just turn counter-clockwise and pull the holder our, then you just pull the bulb out of the socket and replace. easy job. the onl;y special tool you need are your hands. Your local parts store will have the bulb for it.

Q: i want to get a new sound system in my 2001 nissan maxima.?
i want to get a new sound system in my 2001 nissan maxima. Im going to a shop tomorrow and im not trying to spend any more than $500 with installation. i was debating on the woofers between MTX and Kicker and i have no idea what kind of amplifier i want. anybody have any suggestions?

A: Dont just go to 1 shop. 500 bucks is not a small amount of money. Keep your installer honest by visiting 3 different shops and let them know up front, how much you got on your budget and ask them what they would do for the 500 bucks. 1 of the 3 shops will work hard for you money and you will know who has the confidence on their plan/ gear/ install.

Q: i have a 2001 nissan maxima, at the last service the mechanic forgot to clip the air filter down?
i have subsequently noticed loss of power between speeds of 80 and 100km per hour, rough idling, and a generally sluggish driving experience. I have since clipped back the filter after cleaning the intake area as best as i could..... what do you think i should do?

A: Take it back and tell them what you told us. Personally I would insist that they pay a dealership to completely go over car to make sure it is OK. Air filters are there for a reason and are one of themost important parts on a car. You can cause SERIOUS damage to your car if you pick up something as tiny as one grain of sand. A compression test should determine if anything got into your engine and scratched a cylinder wall. I would insist on the dealership because you don't want them to ever touch your car again. Please don't ask for a free service, that is only asking for more trouble. You may have no luck because there is no proof, but if it is reputable shop or a chain you will have more leverage. Just get the most you can and try to find out what is wrong. Threaten to call corporate offices and the better business bureau. Jiffy lube and the like are all terrible places. Anywhere you go to get an oil change you are more than likely to get some moron doing the work. Even dealerships use inexperienced kids to do this kind of work. The good thing about dealerships or lube shops attached to dealerships is that they want to maintain their reputation and good standing with their corporate office. Lube shops like Jiffy Lube already have a terrible reputation so they don't care.

Q: how can i reset my service engine soon light on my 2001 nissan maxima?
Nissan, Toyota & HOnda like other vehicles have a set service engine light that comes on at a point where your oil fluids might need to be changed or other fluids, once getting the maintainance most dealers charge you an additional $60 to clear it, I heard its only a reset button that you press under the drives side. Is this true, if so can someone tell me where it is. I'm tired of getting rip off. Thanx.

A: As stated in the first answer, the light can be cleared easily. if there is something wrong go to maxima.org to find a simple way to get the code with nothing more than a flathead screwdriver. There is a slot on the ECU that will flash codes through the check engine light and tell you whats wrong. And you really though nissan hooked it up to a "special" machine HA!

Q: How to unlock my 2001 Nissan Maxima Bose Radio?
I just changed the batt. on my 01 Maxima an the bose radio stoped working. The lights on the radio are on but no music will play or radio will react to anything. Please help !

A: First off you must check every fuse on the car under hood two places as well as under dash fuse panel. Even if you have to use needle nose pliers and remove each one at a time and hold up to the light. Be sure you get them back exactly where you remove them. I use a voltage probe that can see ground or power and touch each side of the fuse back. If all the fuses are ok there is internal protection inside the radio head. Having Nissan remove the radio and send it to the repair center costs around $250. Expensive but when you get it back it works. Exchanging out the entire sound system throwing away the BOSE gets expensive into the $1,000's But Modern Satellite radio and Navigation with tilt out screens and big powerful sub woofers in the trunk so people can hear you at the intersections and in a couple of years you can be wearing hearing aids. Just a momentary cross wire jump start can cause the radio internal protection to fail. There is no unlock code.

Q: Where is the turn signal flasher on a 2001 Nissan Maxima?
I need to change the flasher module on a Maxima and can't find it.

A: Remove the lower cover on the drivers side the combo flasher unit is located near the data link connector about four inches right of the fuse box bolted to the dash structure. Green black, green yellow and green white (3) wires.

Q: To a 2001 Nissan Maxima owner with an owner's manual?
I am seriously looking at buying a 2001 Nissan Maxima as a second car. I have been told that it "Requires Premium Unleaded gasoline." Is this true, and does it say that in your owner's manual? Or, does it say "Premium Gasoline is RECOMMENDED, not required?" Thank you..

A: No, unfortunely Nissan Maxima's were designed for premium gasoline only. You can use super (octane rating of 87 AKI) in a pinch but nothing lower than 87AKI as it will affect your performance and emissions. It should also remind you on your gas cap in case you ever forget =)

Q: Check engine light : what is the criteria for driving cycle for Nissan Maxima 2001 ? to pass inspection?
Check engine light : what is the criteria for driving cycle for Nissan Maxima 2001 ? to pass inspection I recently fixed the problems that caused Check Engine light to turn on. I would like to know what things I should do to pass the inspection test. (Such as driving 60 miles for 30 min and so on...) Thank you

A: RUNNING AN OBDII DRIVE CYCLE The purpose of completing an OBD II drive cycle is to force the vehicle to run its onboard diagnostics. Some form of a drive cycle needs to be performed after DTCs have been erased from the PCM’s memory or after the battery has been disconnected. Running through a vehicle’s complete drive cycle will “set” the readiness monitors so that future faults can be detected (and potentially to pass the NYVIP re-inspection). Drive cycles vary depending on the vehicle and the monitor that needs to be re-set. Whenever possible, follow the drive trace prescribed for the specific vehicle/monitor in question. Some vehicle-specific drive cycles can be found in the vehicle’s Owner’s Manual. The following “universal” drive cycle can be used as a guide to assist with re-setting monitors when a vehicle specific drive cycle cannot be located. This generic OBDII drive cycle begins with a cold start (coolant temperature below 122 degrees F and the coolant and air temperature sensors within 11 degrees of one another). This condition can be achieved by allowing the vehicle to “sit” overnight, and then by beginning the drive cycle the next day. Most drive cycles will be difficult to follow exactly under normal driving conditions, so the driver should exercise caution, road safety, and courtesy to others. • Start the engine. Idle the engine in drive for two and a half minutes with the A/C and rear defroster on. • Turn the A/C and rear defrost off, and accelerate to 55 mph at half throttle. • Hold at a steady speed of 55 mph for three minutes. • Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph without braking or depressing the clutch. • Accelerate back to 55 to 60 mph at ¾ throttle. • Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60 mph for five minutes. • Decelerate (coast down) to a stop without braking. If all emissions parts are working properly this drive cycle will fix the problem. Might want to repeat the cycle and then have the emissions tested.

Q: What bike racks will fit my 2001 Nissan Maxima w/ spoiler?
I am looking for a rack that will hold 2 bikes on the back of my 2001 Nissan Maxima. The car has a spoiler, so it seems that there may be issues with a typical trunk rack.

A: I suggest you go to your local bike shop and ask them for advice. Most shops will be happy to pull a rack out of the box and see if it is going to fit. Personally, I don't much care for a trunk rack. I used one for years and was happy to finally replace it. A trunk rack chews up your paint, makes it very difficult to get in and out of your trunk and unless you get the straps perfectly tensioned will vibrate in the wind. You may want to think about a hitch mounted rack, if a trunk rack won't fit. Hope this helps. You might

Q: What is causing a rubbing/grinding noise on my 2001 Nissan Maxima?
I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima- 75,200 miles. Lately when starting from a cold start and I turn left, I hear a thump from the driver's side front. Lately I hear a grinding/rubbing noise from the passenger front. I had the strut towers replaced but the dealer said the struts are fine. What can be causing this? It usually happened on turns and accelarating up to 25 mph. Past 25 it stops. Thanks.

A: Sounds like you have bad passenger side front wheel bearing. If you turn left, which would shift the weight to the side and it causes the noise to become louder and also as your getting up to speed more than likely its the bearings. If it is the bearing and you need to get the replaced I would recommend getting them both done as the other one will probably go soon as well. Wheel bearings are what allows the wheels to spin freely. It will probably cost a couple hundred to get them done unless your mechanically inclined.

Q: How do I locate a cylinder on my 2001 Nissan Maxima?
Hello All, I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE which has typical iginiton coil problems. The code reader says cylinder 5 is misfiring. How do I locate cylinder 5? I have the service guide but there is no numbering diagram. Thanks! Thanks Tee for the response. Where would I find that in the factory service guide? They show a picture of the ignition coils but do not number it for you.

A: John Paul is dead on.
